Bone Graft Procedure

Suzanne Haeri DDS offers bone grafting services to her patients in the Los Angeles, CA area. Bone grafts are needed when the jaw bone is not strong enough to house a restorative device like a dental implant. When a tooth is missing and never replaced, the bone will disintegrate. A bone graft will fix this by replacing it with healthy tissue.

At your first appointment with Dr. Haeri, she will examine the jaw and mouth. X-rays will determine the full condition of the bone. If you are eligible for a bone graft, the x-ray will also show us how much tissue will be needed. Tissue for the graft can be collected in various ways. It can be taken from another area of your mouth in certain cases, or areas like your hip or tibia. Tissue labs also provide materials. Once the sample has been collected and determined to be of sound quality, the next step in the procedure can start.

You will first be placed under general anesthesia. Dr. Haeri will start by making an incision along your jaw in the selected area. The healthy tissue will be inserted and held in place using screws, wires, etc. Afterward, Dr. Haeri will close up the area with either stitches or a suture.

After the procedure, follow any and all post-operative instructions given. Avoid vigorous activity while healing. The speed of your recovery is entirely dependent on your body and the size of the graft. The larger the graft the longer it will take to heal. Recovery can stem from two weeks all the way up to a full year.

Pediatric Tooth Extraction

A tooth extraction is a dental procedure that involves removing a tooth from the bone socket and is a scary procedure for adults, let alone children. For a child, this procedure can be terrifying since he or she does not know what to expect and will often worry that the procedure will hurt. At the practice of Dr. Suzanne Haeri, DDS, she offers a variety of ways to ease your child’s fear before a tooth extraction.

Dr. Suzanne Haeri, DDS will extract a child’s tooth if it has become decayed to the point where a root canal is not an option. A child’s tooth may also be extracted if the tooth is fractured beyond repair, or if the mouth is overcrowded with teeth. If your child is getting braces, Dr. Haeri may also decide to extract one or more teeth to make room for shifting teeth. Nitrous Oxide is also available for children who find this procedure frightening; however, they will need a preliminary visit with Dr. Haeri to make sure they are an eligible candidate for nitrous sedation.

Causes of Gapped Teeth

We’re happy to help patients with all sorts of dental cosmetic problems at Dr. Suzanne Haeri’s South Carthay practice. Among the most common problems patients seek help for are gaps between the front teeth. Also known as diastemas, gaps between the upper incisors can have several causes, some of which also require treatment.

There are a few options for closing the gap. Among our offerings are Lumineers, the extremely thin brand of veneers that reshape the fronts of a patient’s teeth and are available on the same day as the appointment. We also supply Snap-On Smiles, which are oral devices that slide over teeth instead of being permanently fixed to them. However, Dr. Haeri will need to examine the patient’s mouth and inquire about their habits before deciding upon a treatment plan. Sometimes, a diastema is caused by an overly thick labial frenum, which is the strip of tissue on the inside of a person’s lip. It may be blocking the teeth from closing together. Alternatively, a patient habit such as tongue thrusting may be pushing the teeth apart. Resolving this may require the assistance of a psychological counselor or of an ear, nose, and throat doctor if the problem is related to swallowing or breathing.

Restore Your Smile with Dental Implants

Do you frown in photos? Have you lost your desire to smile because of missing teeth? If you’ve answered yes to these questions, Dr. Suzanne Haeri, DDS can restore your smile with dental implants. A dental implant is a surgical component that is placed into the jawbone to support a dental crown, a dental bridge, or a denture. Dental implants are natural-looking and are an excellent cosmetic option in addition to restorative.

Dental implants are just like your natural teeth. They have an intimate relationship with the gum which is why it’s important to be in good general and oral health before undergoing oral surgery. Dental implants can replace a single tooth, replace several teeth, or replace all of them if the damage is that severe. Dental implants can last for up to 10 years with proper oral care and maintenance.

If you have questions or concerns regarding dental implants, please give us a call. To learn more about the services we provide at our practice, visit www.suzannehaeridds.com for more information. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Suzanne Haeri, DDS herself in our Los Angeles, CA office, call 310-657-2200.

Dry Sockets

Tooth extractions are a routine procedure and Dr. Haeri works hard to ensure her patients have successful recoveries. However, complications such as a dry socket can happen. To prevent this, Dr. Haeri wants her patients to understand what to avoid in the days following an extraction and when to come to her for help.

As you can probably guess, a dry socket is what happens when an empty socket dries out. This is extremely painful and poses a high risk of infection. Typically, when teeth are extracted, a blood clot will form to protect the socket, but certain medications, including birth control, can prevent this from happening. We also advise patients to gently rinse their mouths with salt water after surgery to moisturize and prevent decay in a way which will not disturb the clot. Sipping through straws and smoking are known to increase the risk a clot will be dislodged or dissolved.

A dry socket will usually be evident within two days of an extraction. Patients should come to us immediately so we can prevent further damage and ease their pain. After using a vacuum to clean the socket, Dr. Haeri will apply medicated wound dressing (this could be cloth or a paste) and prescribe antibiotics and pain medications. Unfortunate though dry sockets are, with proper treatment they should not prevent a patient from making a full recovery.
