Teeth Whitening

Dr. Suzanne Haeri knows patients always want to present their brightest and whitest smile.  Many ask the doctor and his staff about over the counter products, and have tried them with underwhelming results.  Instead of winging it with retail products, come see us for a consultation and get your own custom whitening system!

During a consultation, your dentist will examine the level of staining on your teeth and be able to tell you what kind of results you can expect from the whitening system. To whiten your teeth at home, you will be fit with custom whitening trays made from molds of your teeth.  For a treatment, apply the whitening gel directly onto the trays and fit them over your teeth.  Your dentist will advise how often you should treat at home and how long each treatment can last.  Following dentist’s instructions, patients have seen this system whiten their smiles 4-8 shades!

Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Everyone has a set of wisdom teeth but this set of ‘final molars’ often stays impacted.  Some patients experience these teeth beginning to erupt, usually between the ages of 17 and 24.  Even when that happens, there is not enough space in the mouth for these wisdom teeth to grow, which is why Dr. Suzanne Haeri typically recommends extraction.

Keeping wisdom teeth too long can cause oral discomfort, headaches, damage the surrounding teeth and put a patient at risk for infection. If you experience swollen or tender gums around the wisdom teeth, jaw pain, or facial swelling, give us a call to determine if you need your wisdom teeth removed, and discuss sedation options and procedure with you.  The procedure will include stitches and some down time, but following instructions, a patient’s recovery shouldn’t take more than a week.

Take Proper Care of Your Toothbrush

Your toothbrush is the primary instrument you need to keep your gums and teeth in tip-top shape. As you reach for your toothbrush at any time during the day, you may not realize what is festering on those bristles. Proper toothbrush maintenance is important in keeping your oral cavity clean and your optimal health in good shape. Dr. Suzanne Haeri, DDS, is here to tell you how to take good care of your toothbrush.

Toothbrushes are necessary to eliminate plaque that can lead to the destruction of our tooth enamel. Because a toothbrush is highly exposed to bacteria, it’s important to never share one with your significant other and you should always store them in a dry, open space. Appropriate toothbrush care and maintenance are necessary for a healthy oral hygiene routine. You should replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months or when bristles are frayed.

Sedation Options

Sedation dentistry is commonly used during oral surgery procedures but can also be used to take the edge off during a dental procedure for patients who suffer from anxiety. At the dental practice of Dr. Suzanne Haeri, DDS, we utilize safe and effective methods of sedation. Depending on the patient and the procedure, the following options may be suggested.

  • Oral Conscious – With oral conscious sedation, the patient remains awake but is left in a heightened state of mind. For this option, you will need someone to drive you home after your procedure.

  • Nitrous Oxide – Nitrous, also known as laughing gas, leaves the patient in a euphoric state feeling completely relaxed. All feelings of fear and anxiety will fade away and you will be able to respond to the doctor if need be. Nitrous wears off once the procedure is complete, allowing you to return to your daily activities.

  • Anxiolysis – This light sedative is not as strong as oral sedation but is recommend for those who have mild to moderate anxiety. You will be able to drive yourself home after anxiolysis is administered.

What is a Dental Bridge?

Patients with missing or damaged teeth can count on South Carthay’s Dr. Suzanne Haeri to provide them with replacements. One of the oldest solutions in dentistry for replacing compromised teeth is the dental bridge, which is why we want our patients to understand more about it.

A dental bridge is a series of artificial crowns which are connected to each other. They are constructed in a dental laboratory based on an impression of the patient’s mouth. A pontic bridge is one which rests on two natural teeth as its base. Each tooth has been reshaped in order to support an artificial crown, and an additional artificial crown is suspended between them. Bridges are also made in the form of partial dentures, or they may be supported by implants. Although it is discouraged for patients to have healthy teeth reshaped, bridges are a popular option when there are several teeth in a row which require new crowns or are missing and need to be replaced. The teeth used to support a fixed bridge may need to undergo a root canal prior to being reshaped if they have been damaged by infection.

Causes of Gapped Teeth

We’re happy to help patients with all sorts of dental cosmetic problems at Dr. Suzanne Haeri’s South Carthay practice. Among the most common problems patients seek help for are gaps between the front teeth. Also known as diastemas, gaps between the upper incisors can have several causes, some of which also require treatment.

There are a few options for closing the gap. Among our offerings are Lumineers, the extremely thin brand of veneers that reshape the fronts of a patient’s teeth and are available on the same day as the appointment. We also supply Snap-On Smiles, which are oral devices that slide over teeth instead of being permanently fixed to them. However, Dr. Haeri will need to examine the patient’s mouth and inquire about their habits before deciding upon a treatment plan. Sometimes, a diastema is caused by an overly thick labial frenum, which is the strip of tissue on the inside of a person’s lip. It may be blocking the teeth from closing together. Alternatively, a patient habit such as tongue thrusting may be pushing the teeth apart. Resolving this may require the assistance of a psychological counselor or of an ear, nose, and throat doctor if the problem is related to swallowing or breathing.

Restore Your Smile with Dental Implants

Do you frown in photos? Have you lost your desire to smile because of missing teeth? If you’ve answered yes to these questions, Dr. Suzanne Haeri, DDS can restore your smile with dental implants. A dental implant is a surgical component that is placed into the jawbone to support a dental crown, a dental bridge, or a denture. Dental implants are natural-looking and are an excellent cosmetic option in addition to restorative.

Dental implants are just like your natural teeth. They have an intimate relationship with the gum which is why it’s important to be in good general and oral health before undergoing oral surgery. Dental implants can replace a single tooth, replace several teeth, or replace all of them if the damage is that severe. Dental implants can last for up to 10 years with proper oral care and maintenance.

If you have questions or concerns regarding dental implants, please give us a call. To learn more about the services we provide at our practice, visit www.suzannehaeridds.com for more information.
